This award-winning project included the construction of a new 20,000-square foot fire station building, 11,200-square foot covered fireboat bay enclosure (the first in Port history), geotechnical improvements, site utilities, stand-by generator, fire pump enclosure, stormwater BMP, landscape, fencing, and hardscape improvements. The project exceeded the Port of Long Beach's sustainability goals by achieving USGBC LEED Gold Certification when Silver Certification was the actual contractual requirement. The facility has been built to provide a life cycle of more than 50 years in a marine environment. The new fireboat station supports the tremendous growth experienced at the Port of Long Beach (Port). The port is the second busiest container port in the United States and is a major conduit for U.S.-Asia trade. It occupies 3,200 acres of land with 25 miles of waterfront. The seaport is responsible for more than $125 billion in trade and employs more than 325,000 Southern California residents. It is critical that the POLB has state-of-the-art first responder facilities to ensure the safety of the workers and minimize any downtime to its operations. The Port of Long Beach turned to Pinner Construction as its trusted partner to construct the Fireboat Station No. 15 at Pier F.
